Friends’ AGM – Thursday May 12th 2011

Ray WhiteThe AGM went very well, and thank you to all who made the special effort to come and support it. It was just lovely to see Ray White there, as President and Founder of the Friends.

Angela Jordan, CEO Prospect Hospice

Angela Jordan told us about their marvellous Prospect@home service, which the Friends’ last donation of £10,000 is helping to support.

Many patients at Prospect Hospice patients would choose to end their lives at home, in familiar surroundings. Angela Jordan and Paul LefeverProspect@Home is a service offering specialist care, nursing support and practical and emotional support to patients, families and carers who want to be to be able to let that happen. It helps to give people confidence, and also helps the family sustain such a situation in their own home. The real aim is to improve the overall quality of life for the time the patient has left with their family.

In Wiltshire, the Friends’ £10,000 donation has helped 312 patients, and provided 7000 hours of care.

Paul Lefever, Chairman of the Friends, was presented with another cheque for £10000, and invited back to next year’s AGM to tell us how Prospect Hospice has been able to best use it.

Claire Perry MPAngela Jordan and Claire Perry

Claire Perry spoke of her committment to getting local healthcare services back, and of how the current plans for reforming the NHS, by decentralising the service of service commissioning to GPS, might possibly lead to MIUs being run at local hospital once again.

Friends’ Shop – one year old!

Friends' Shop

Friends' Shop

The Friends of Savernake Hospital & Local Community (aka FoSH) opened the Shop at the Hospital on March 1st 2009. The tiny treasure trove of a shop aims to provide a service to patients, staff and visitors, the most important of which is the daily Trolley Shop that goes up on to Ailesbury Ward. We are open Monday – Friday, 11.30am – 3.30pm.

Come and celebrate with us! There might be cakes…

Click here to see ‘The making of a shop’

We stock a range of basic toiletries that patients may require but also have gifts, stationery, stamps, newspapers, magazines, cards, silk flowers etc.

We are carrying a small range of gadgets for people with disabilities and the all important ferrules (the rubber bit on the end of you walking aid)  for walking sticks, zimmers etc.  When did you last check your ferrule was safe?  Check now – all sizes available.

Pay us a visit -  come and browse! If we don’t stock it – please ask – we will help if we possibly can!  We are always on the lookout for more volunteers – go to the Sign Up as a member or a volunteer  page to read more.
